GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD
This craft is a remindei of God's love for the world and of Jesus' sacrifice for everyone
What you need:
Two pieces of 8 1/2 x 11" white or light blue construction paper
Circle shape that fits paper (plastic lid or paper plate)
Black marker or crayon
Masking tape
Shallow box, box lid or old cookie tray
Blue and green paint
2 paper plates
Two marbles
Two plastic spoons
Scissors
What you do:
1. On one piece of paper, trace the circle shape.
2. Using 2 pieces of masking tape, make a cross in the center of our circle.
3 Place your paper inside the box, box lid or cookie tray.
4. Pour blue paint onto one paper plate and green on to the other. Place one marble in each color of paint.
5. Using a spoon, take out one marble at a time and place on your paper
6. Roll each marble back and forth and around alternating between colors.
7. After your circle looks like the planet Earth \kith lots of blue and green, cut out the circle.
8. Glue the circle onto another piece of paper.
9. Around the circle, write the words to John 3:16, NIV: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
10. Take off the masking tape and see the cross thats left. Keep your art work as a reminder of how much God loves you
GIVE A HEART
One way to show love is to do something nice for someone else. Luke 10:27 tells
us to love our neighbors, but who are our neighbors? Everyone is!
Make these fun heart treats to share with some of your neighbors.
What you need:
- Saucepan
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 2 or 3 bags of miniature marshmallows
- 4 cups of crisp-rice cereal (regular or chocolate)
- 9 x 13 pan
- Heart shaped cookie cutter
- Bag of chocolate chips (milk or white chocolate)
- Bowl
- Zipper sandwich baggie
- Scissors
What you do (with adult help)
1. Melt butter in saucepan and add marshmallows,
2- Stir until mixture becomes difficult to stir anymore. Mix in cereal and stir.
3. Butter the 9 x 13 pan and spread the mixture evenly in it. Allow to cool.
4. When cool, use cookie cutter to cut out heart-shaped treats.
S. Melt chocolate chips in a bowl in the microwave.
6. Spoon melted chocolate into a baggie. Cut off a corner and drizzle chocolate over the treats.
7- Enjoy giving a heart to your neighbor!
COUNTDOWN TO THE NEW YEAR
Celebrate the blessings of the previous year and the hope of the New Year with this fun party idea and craft.
What you need:
• Brown paper lunch bags or colorful bags
• Construction paper
• Markers
• Glue
• Scissors
• Stickers (optional)
• Inexpensive prizes or treats (see ideas below)
What you do:
1. Before New Year's Eve, assemble a bag for every hour before midnight that you plan to celebrate.
2. Use construction paper and markers to make a clock with a different time for each bag.
3. Glue a clock onto each bag.
4. Decorate the bags with stickers or other designs.
5. Fill the bags with inexpensive prizes or treats, each accompanied by a Bible verse. Here are a few suggestions:
• Plastic party-favor watches ("The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore" Psalm 121:8, NIV )
• Bookmarks ("Devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture" 1 Timothy 4:13, NIV)
• Small notepads and pencils ("Let love and faithfulness never leave you ... write them on the tablet of your heart" Proverbs 3:3, NIV)
• Sweet treats ("Taste and see that the LORD is good" Psalm 34:8, NIV)
• Party noisemaker, in a bag to be opened at midnight ("Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth" Psalm 98:4, NRSV)
6. Open each bag at the time shown on its clock
PAPER BAG LUMINARIAS
Lead your family and friends to your house this holiday with luminarias celebrating Jesus' birth. WHAT YOU NEED:
. Pencil
. Brown paper lunch bags
. Hole punch
. tack or push pin
. Sand
. Votive candles or tea lights
WHAT YOU D0:
1.Draw a simple picture, word or symbol of Jesus' birth on the bag; for example, a star, a manger, a heart, a lamb, a wise man or the word "JOY."
2.Using a hole punch or push pin, punch holes along the drawing, leaving a little space between each hole. Punch all the way through both sides of the bag so you end up with the same design on both sides when the bag is opened. When using a pin, place a piece of cardboard under the bag or work on carpet so nothing gets damaged.
3.Open the bag and fill each luminaria with about two inches of sand. Then sink a votive candle or tea light in the center of the sand.
4,Place the luminarias along a walk, patio or porch. Have an adult light the candles.
Holiday Candle
On Thanksgiving, we share a special meal with family and friends. Make this holiday candle as a festive centerpiece for your table.
What you need:
• Paper towel
• One 8-oz. clear plastic cup
• Petroleum jelly (Vaseline)
• Paper or plastic disposable bowl
• About 8 oz. of a variety of dried beans, peas, corn, etc.
• Bottle of white glue
• Plastic spoon
• An 8- to 10-inch taper or dinner candle
• Adult to help
What you do:
1. Using the paper towel, rub a generous amount of petroleum jelly on the inside of the cup (bottom and sides).
2. In a bowl, pour the dried-bean mixture.
3. Squeeze enough glue into the bean mixture to generously coat it. Stir the mixture with the spoon.
4. Spoon about half of the bean mixture into the greased cup. Then place the candle, with any plastic wrapping removed, into the center of the mixture. Next, fill the cup with the rest of the mixture. Smooth the top to make it flat, making sure the candle stays straight.
5. Squeeze extra glue around the hole made by the candle. Let the bean mixture dry completely, which could take a day or longer.
6. When the bean mixture is dry, gently pull the candle. Both the candle and beans should come out as one. (If they don't, pour more glue and wait another day.)
7. Place your candle on a small plate for a festive Thanksgiving centerpiece.
Hands that Give
There are many ways you can give to others. All you have to do is lend a hand!
What you need:
• Colored paper
• Scissors
• Markers or crayons
• Yarn or heavy string
• Clothespins or paper clips
What you do:
1. With your parents help, think of seven (or more) things you can do for 7 (or more) people. For example, you could clean out closets and donate the items to charity, help a neighbor bring in her trash and so on.
2. Trace your hand on the paper 7 times. Cut out each hand.
3. On one side of hand, rite a person's name. On the other side., write out you will help that person.
4. Cut a. long piece of yarn (or heavy string) and hang it in your room like a clothesline.
5. Use the Clothespins or paper clips to hang each hand on the clothesline.
6. When you've completed each art of service, take the hand off, but keep it to use another time.
7. Do this activity over and over again by "giving a hand" to someone.
Easy Applesauce Muffins
This healthy recipe will make a great start to your day, a great snack or a great gift for your teacher and classmates.
What you need:
6 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups Chunky applesauce
Baking cups
What you do:
1. With an adult's help, heat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a 12-cup Muffin tin with baking cups and set aside.
2. In a small, microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter on high for about 30 seconds; set aside to cool slightly.
3. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt into a large mixing bowl.
4. In another large bowl, whisk together the ejgs and brown sugar.Stir in the applesauce and melted butter until the Mixture is smooth.
5. Pour the apple mixture over the flour mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon just until the flour disappears. (This will produce mliffins with a nice, crumbly textlire.)
6. Fill the baking cups about two-thirds full with batter. (For mess-free muffins, use an ice cream scoop to spoon batter into baking cups.)
7. Bake for 20 minutes or until light brown. Test for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the middle; if it comes out clean, the muffins are ready to eat. Makes 12
Footprints IN THE SAND
Try this craft at the beach, at the park or in your own sandbox at home. It will remind you whose footprints we should follow.
What you need:Plaster of Paris , Sand (beach, park or sandbox) , Small shells (optional) , Water , Small bowl ,a Stick, toothpick or skewer (optional)
What you do:
1. Find some moist sand by digging down a little.
2. With a bare foot, make a footprint in the sand.
3. (Optional) Place shells face down on the toe imprints as toenails.
4. Follow the plaster of Paris directions for mixing the dry plaster with water in bowl.
5. Fill the footprint with the plaster and smooth the surface.
6. (Optional) Using a stick, toothpick or skewer, write "Direct my footsteps" (Psalm 119:133) or "Follow Me" (John 10:27).
7. When dry, place the foot in your garden, yard or room.
8. Remember to turn the foot over to remind yourself of whose footprints we should follow, and that we are never alone.
THERE IS NO ROCK LIKE OUR GOD
Try this fun summer craft that transforms rocks into beautiful waxy jewels! This craft can remind you that "there is no Rock like our God" (1 Samuel 2.2).
What you need:
Smooth flat rocks , Aluminum foil , Oven mitt
Newspapers , Old crayons , Cookie sheet
Black permanent marker (optional)* , An adult to help
What you do:
1. Clean off the rocks.
2. With an adult's help, set the oven to 225 degrees and bake your rocks for 15 minutes on a foil-lined cookie sheet.
3. While the rocks bake, remove the paper wrappers from the old crayons.
4. With an adult's help, use an oven mitt to remove the rocks from the stove and set them on a pad of newspapers. The rocks will be VERY HOT, so
be careful
5.Draw on the rocks with the crayons The heat will melt the into vibrant liquid wax. F4 a swirl effect, hold each crayon against the rock in one place to create a puddle of color, and continue to swirl the color around with the end of the crayon
6. *After the rock cools, use the marker to write "God Rocks," "The LORD is my Rock" or "My God is my Rock."
A Verse Frame
Make this special gift for your dad, uncle, grandfather or father figure. It is nice to be reminded of our heavenly Father's love for us.
What you need:
Piece of craft foam (8 ½ x 11 “, any color)
ruler, scissors
piece of paper (8 ½ x 11 “, any color)
pencil, crayons or marker
foam shapes, stickers (optional)
glue, hole punch, ribbon or yarn
What you do:
1. Use your ruler to measure a rectangle inside the piece of craft foam. Draw the rectangle and then cut it out. Your foam should now look like a frame.
2. Place the piece of paper under the foam frame and trace the shape of the frame's window onto the paper.
3. Choose a verse to write inside the rectangle on your paper. (Your frame can go horizontally or vertically) Suggested verses include 1 Cor 8:6, Philippians 4:20, 1 John 3:1.
4. Turn the frame over (face down) and put glue around the edge. Lay the verse face down on the back of the frame and let it dry.
5. Decorate the outside of the frame with foam shapes, stickers or drawings.
6. Use your hole punch to punch 2 holes at the top of the frame. Tie a piece of ribbon or yarn through the hole to hang the frame.
Cloud Cookies
Jesus was “lifted up and a cloud took him out of their sight” Acts 1:9
When you make these cloud cookies, remember what the angels said to the his apostles: “This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven”(verse 11)
What you need:
an Adult to help
1white cake mix
1egg beaten
1container (6 oz) of frozen whipped topping, thawed
3 cups powered sugar
Whar you do:
Combine cake mix and egg
Fold in whipped topping
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto powered sugar and coat well
Place on ungreased cookie sheet
Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until tops are firm
Easter Crosses
Make this craft to remember what Jesus did for us. Hang it in your room to look at all year long.
What you need:
• Two 8" paper plates (white) • Pencil
• Crayons, paints or felt markers
• Stapler, glue stick or glue
• Scissors -
• Paper punch _
• Yarn, string or ribbon (about 10" or 12")
What you do.
1. With your pencil draw a slight curved line all the way across the center of one plate. This will be a hill. 2. Draw three crosses
on the hill. Make the center one a little bigger than the others.
3. Color the hill green and the crosses brown. Or color
the hill and crosses black to look like a silhouette.
4. Cut out the hill
and crosses as one piece.
5. Color the top half of the other plate with red, orange and yellow to look like an evening sky.
6. Staple or glue the hill-and-crosses plate onto the sky plate. Make sure you line up the bottom edges of the plates, and staple or glue just along the curved edges where the plates meet.
7. Punch a hole near the top of the sky plate.
8. Tie a loop of yarn, string or ribbon through the hole.
9. Hang your scene on your doorknob or on something else in your room
A PRAYER REMINDER Many times we fold our hands together to pray. Here is a "handy" craft that can help you remember what to include in your prayers.
What you need.
2 sheets of 81h" x 11" construction paper (different colors)
Pencil
Scissors
Crayons
1 piece of ribbon, yarn or string about 6-12 inches long
Glue (white or glue stick)
What to do:
1. Trace your hand on one sheet of paper.
2. Cut out the traced hand.
3. Tie the ribbon, yarn or string around the pointer (index) finger.
4. Write a message on each finger: (Pointer finger) God's -guidance (pray for help to follow God's ways) (Middle finger) Leaders in my life (teachers, pastors, etc.) (Ring finger) Sick and old people (Pinky finger) Myself(Thumb) My family
5. Glue the hand onto the other sheet of paper.
6. Start with the ribbon finger and pray for God's help. Then pray for all the people on each finger.
